Welcome to my first post on my blog, or any blog for that matter!
Part of my Individual Professional Growth Plan this year is to focus on student learning, engagement, and feedback, and one of the ways that I have been trying to engage with students is through modeling that learning never stops. Too often students assume that what is being taught in our classrooms is an isolated event; that it can be compartmentalized and dumped after a period of inactivity. I could be wrong but, I don't think they understand that learning is an on-going process, and this is partly because they see us teachers as the "sage on the sage" or the "deliverers of content." For these reasons, I have actively been seeking out new avenues to showcase my own learning.
I started small by learning and trying out a new app each week in my classroom (padlet, mural.ly, geddit, etc) but then I made the jump to setting up my own website where I could share, not only the resources I utilize in my classroom, but also the new knowledge that I have been acquiring. With a single click, this website was born:
“Congratulations Nathan! Your website, thismortalcoil.weebly.com, was born at 9:11pm PDT on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. It weighs a healthy 4 pages and 22 elements. You must be very proud!” (from the Weebly Team).
I don't know where this will go from here but I am excite to start a new chapter in my teaching career; of moving away from knowledge authority to an architect of learning.
Thanks for joining me in my journey.
Sincerely,
Nathan Crosby
